About HDZERO

A journal about working from home without letting the work take over the home — fewer things, chosen properly, made to last.

HDZERO is an independent publication about home-office interior design. We started it because most advice on working from home is either a shopping list of gadgets or a mood board you can't actually live in. We wanted the opposite: practical, well-photographed guides that treat a home office as a room to be designed, not a corner to be cluttered.

What we believe

We take our cues from the people who got there first — Charles and Ray Eames, the Herman Miller design studio, the Danish cabinetmakers — who proved that a working object can be beautiful, repairable and quiet all at once. That belief runs through everything here:

  • Fewer things, chosen properly. One good chair beats three bad ones.
  • Honesty in materials. Real wood, wool and metal that age into a room rather than out of it.
  • Serviceable, not disposable. Buy once, maintain it, keep it for a decade.
  • Useful over aspirational. Real measurements, honest budgets, rooms you could recreate this weekend.

How we work

Every guide is written to be used, not just admired. When we quote a number — a desk depth, a chair height, a colour temperature — it's one you can act on. We reference furniture designers and makers (Eames, Herman Miller, Wegner) editorially, to explain ideas, not as paid endorsements.

Our photography is either our own or licensed for reuse — public-domain (CC0) and Creative Commons images, credited on each page where required. We think a design publication should get its own house in order first.

Our editorial standards

We'd rather be useful than exhaustive, so every guide is held to the same rules:

  • Specific over vague. If we can give you a number — a desk depth, a colour temperature, a viewing distance — we do. "Position your monitor comfortably" helps nobody.
  • We say when something doesn't work. Our guide on eye strain reports that the evidence for blue-light glasses is weak, and our standing desk verdict says plainly that they won't help you lose weight. Advice you can't trust to be negative isn't advice.
  • No paid placements. We don't accept payment for coverage or write sponsored posts. If we ever use affiliate links we disclose them, and they never change what we recommend.
  • Health topics stay in their lane. Articles touching on posture, movement or eyesight are written as general information, carry a clear disclaimer, and point readers to qualified professionals for persistent symptoms.
  • Corrections are welcome and visible. Spot something wrong and tell us at hello@hdzero.eu — we fix errors quickly rather than quietly.
  • Licensed imagery, credited. Photography is public-domain (CC0) or Creative Commons, with attribution on the page wherever the licence requires it.
